Three teenage minor leaguers from South America suspended for testing positive for doping
Three American professional baseball teenage minor leaguers playing in the Dominican Summer League were suspended for testing positive for doping.
The Associated Press reported on the 27th (Korean time), “Kenner Perez (19), a minor league right-handed pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals; Ibrahim Jimenez (17), a left-handed minor league pitcher for the San Diego Padres; and Yonatan Price (18), a left-handed pitcher for the San Diego Padres. “They were each suspended for 56 games for taking performance-enhancing drugs,” the report said.
Perez tested positive for stanozolol, Jimenez tested positive for nandrolone, and Price tested positive for boldenone.
All three are steroid drugs that increase muscle mass.
Perez, from Colombia, signed with St. Louis last year for a contract fee of $10,000 (approximately 13.8 million won), and Jimenez (Colombia) also signed with San Diego last year for a contract fee of $10,000.
Price, from the Dominican Republic, joined the Atlanta Braves last year for $35,000 (about 48.5 million won) and was released last month.
