Ji Yu -chan (22, Daegu City Hall) was the 5th place in the 800m Korean men’s Gye -young. Ji Yu -chan wrote a new history of Asia’s new record and Korea’s first World Championships at 50m in men’s freestyle. This is the most prominent result of this world championship.

It is interesting that the Asian record came from swim-off. Ji Yu -chan was tied for eighth out of 16 people with 21 seconds 77 records in the 2025 World Swimming Federation World Championship men’s freestyle 50m semi -final in Singapore on the 1st. He advanced to the finals up to eighth, the same as the Meron Amir Cheruti of Israel until one hundred seconds. Eventually, the two players played a swim-off before the final decision to cover the final finalists.

The Asian record is broken here. Ji -chan is 21 seconds 66, Cheruty 21 seconds 74. Ji Yu -chan’s record was faster than Japan’s 2019 Asian record (21 seconds 67). Ji Yu -chan also broke the Korean record (21 seconds 72) he wrote when he won the gold medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games (held in 2023).

Ji Yu -chan was the first Korean player to enter the world championship freestyle 50m semi -finals at the Doha tournament last year. At the time, he failed to advance to the finals with 12th overall, but this time he also robbed the regret in Singapore.

The swim-off record is officially recognized, and the final player lists the semi-final record of 21 seconds 77. The final will be held at the same place at 8:09 on the 2nd night.

Ji Yu-chan said, “I am happy to have a chance to go to the finals by swim-off. I have been aiming for a long time. I want to go beyond myself in the finals tomorrow.”
