The disabled rugby team, the second place in the Japanese Para Wheelchair Rugby Championship
Wheelchair rugby national teams were second in the Japanese Paradbie Championship.
The Korean National Rugby Association (Chairman Seo Sang -ok) announced on the 30th that the Korean national team won the silver medal in the 2025 Japanese Paravage Championship held in Gariyashi, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
The Korean team, led by Jung Rak -hyun, defeated New Zealand in the competition, where three countries participated, but lost to Japan.
The Korean national team consisted of captain Park Seung -cheol, Lee Sung -hee, Kim Gun -yeop, Lee Soo -geun, Kim Dong -sung, Kim Young -hoon, Park Woo -cheol, Park Jung -ho, and Jeon -min.
The Korea Disabled Rugby Association said, “This competition is a test event for 2026 Aichi and Nagoya Asia Paradigm. 80 players and officials from Korea, Japan and New Zealand participated in Korea, Japan and New Zealand.” He added, “It is an international competition medal after 11 years after the 2014 Incheon Asian Paradigm Silver Medal.”
In a press release, Chung Rak -hyun said, “The players did not give up until the end and showed their concentration. 2026 I will achieve better results in the Asian paradigm game.”
There are four wheelchair rugby teams, and the sum of the disability rating of four players should not exceed 8. Wheelchairs allow contacts in the basketball coat -sized gym, and one point is one point when a player with a ball passes through the opponent’s goal line. The time limit is 40 seconds.
Korea first participated in the 2007 international competition.
