Ohtani added a stolen base… Aiming at ‘55-55’
Shohei Ohtani (31, LA Dodgers, photo), who became the first player in American professional baseball’s Major League Baseball (MLB) to achieve 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season, added a stolen base and set his sights on ’55 home runs and 55 stolen bases.’
Ohtani started as the designated hitter in the 2024 MLB home game against the Colorado Rockies held at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles (LA), California, USA on the 22nd and performed well with 1 hit in 3 at-bats, 1 walk, 1 run, and 1 stolen base. Ohtani, who came out as the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the 9th inning, hit a heavy hit and then stole second base, recording his 53rd stolen base of the season. Despite Ohtani’s performance, the Dodgers lost 3-6 to Colorado.
In the game against the Miami Marlins on the 20th, Ohtani hit his 49th, 50th, and 51st home runs of the season in three consecutive at-bats and stole two bases to reach 50-50. The next day against Colorado, he hit a home run and a stolen base, and on this day he added a stolen base, giving him 52 home runs and 53 stolen bases. The Dodgers now have 7 games left.
Aaron Judge (New York Yankees), who is competing with Ohtani for the ‘#1 home run title in MLB’, hit his 54th home run of the season in a visiting game against the Oakland Athletics on this day. Judge virtually confirmed first place in home runs in the American League and Ohtani ranked first in home runs in the National League.
