Korea No. 1 professional golfer, Yeon Deok -chun, regains the name of the Japanese Open winner in 1941
Advisor KPGA, the first professional golfer in Korea, has regained its Korean name and nationality.
The Korea Professional Golf Association held a trophy engraved with the name of the Korean name on the 12th at the Press Center in Jung -gu, Seoul.
Advisor Yeon Deok -chun won the first Korean to win the Japanese Open Championship, the highest prestige in Japan, in 1941, during the Japanese colonial period, but the trophy was engraved with the Japanese name Nobuhara Tokuharu. The Japan Golf Association (JGA) has also recorded the winner as Nobuhara.
As a result, the Korea Professional Golf Association and the Korea Golf Association (KGA) asked Japan to revise the nationality and name of Yeon Deok -chun last year, and the Japanese side accepted the proposal this year and restored its name and nationality.
At the event, Yeondeokchun’s Japan Open Trophy was restored and released during the Korean War. The trophy is engraved with the English name of the winner Yeon Deok -chun and the four -round two -over par 290 strokes.
Yamanaka Hiroshi, chief operating director of the Japan Golf Association, said, “Yeondeokchun has not been able to write Korean name because of its political background. “This year is a significant year of the 60th anniversary of the normalization of Korea and Japan.
Kim Won -seop, chairman of the Korea Professional Golf Association, said, “Yeon Deok -chun is the root of Korean golf.
Born in Seoul in 1916, Advisor Yeon Deok -chun entered golf with his relatives who worked as a caddy at Kyungsung Golf Club, Korea’s first golf course.
In 1958, he won the first championship at the KPGA Championship, Korea’s first professional golf tournament, and in 1968, he formed KPGA with his juniors.
The Korea Professional Golf Association has been awarded the lowest batting award as ‘Deokchun Award’ to commemorate the torture of Yeon Deok -chun, who died in 2004.
