Afghanistan’s under-17 national football team will compete against the Philippines tomorrow, Monday. The match will be held at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. In its first game, the Philippines defeated Macao 7-0.

The preliminary football competitions under the age of 17, to qualify for the Asian Football Nations Cup, have started on the 28th of May. In this competition, 43 teams compete in ten groups.

All the teams that are at the top of their groups will advance to the Asian Under-17 Football Nations Cup, and the second best five teams from the five groups will go to the Asian Nations Cup.

Afghanistan has been grouped in Group “B” with the under-17 national football teams of Bangladesh, Cambodia, the Philippines and Macau, which will be hosted by Cambodia.

If Afghanistan wins this group, it will advance to the Asian Cup. Even if the Afghan team is second in its group, it will have a chance to advance, provided that it is one of the top five teams among the ten groups to advance.

The Afghanistan national football team under the age of seventeen will start its competition in the qualifiers of the Asian Football Nations Cup under the age of seventeen, which two months ago won the Kafa Cup among six teams from Central Asia.
