(Sports Seoul | Reporter Kim Jong -cheol) The Aqua Balance Association (Chairman Yoo Chul -kyu) announced on July 20 (Sun) that it has successfully held a special lecture on survival swimming for children with disabilities and guardians with the Hanam People’s Swimming Federation.

This lecture was conducted as a practice -oriented program to increase the ability to respond to underwater safety response for the disabled, and practical training to cope with crisis, such as the correct wearing of life jackets, the rescue request when falling into the water, and the survival technology using the surrounding tools. Children and guardians with disabilities participated together to strengthen their survival swimming capabilities.

In particular, the Aqua Balance Association recently issued a certification and textbook of ‘survival swimming and survival of the disabled’.

The qualification process encompasses the theory and practice available in the actual field, and aims to secure expertise in the survival swimming field and establish a safety education system.

The association plans to cultivate more underwater safety professionals and expand the base of survival swimming education, which is increasing in demand nationwide.

Chairman Yoo Chul -kyu said, “This lecture was a practical opportunity to overcome the fear of water and to learn survival technology.” “The association will continue to actively expand and systematize the survival swimming program for the disabled.”

Chairman Yoo also expressed concern about the structural limitations of the state’s underwater rehabilitation policy.

He said, “The government has originally planned to supply 150 Bandabi Sports Center by 2020 to improve the accessibility of the disabled, but only 32 facilities will be completed by 2025.”

In addition, the biggest problem is that the underwater rehabilitation program is not even opened due to the lack of professional manpower. “What is needed now is a national systemic response system that can cultivate and deploy professional manpower dedicated to underwater rehabilitation beyond the expansion of physical infrastructure.”

Meanwhile, the Aqua Balance Association will hold the ‘2025 Asia Underwater Rehabilitation Conference’ for both September 6 (Fri) to 7 (Sat).

In particular, on September 6, the National Assembly will hold a policy forum on the present and future of Asia’s underwater rehabilitation, and will be attended by underwater rehabilitation experts from six countries, including Korea, to provide policy directions for public infrastructure construction and professional training.

The conference is expected to strengthen its Asian underwater rehabilitation network beyond Korea and to be an international cooperation for the disabled and the international cooperation for securing professionalism. jckim99@sportsseoul.com
