Hwang Sun -woo enters the 200m semi -finals of the World Swimming Championship… 4 consecutive medals challenge
Hwang Sun -woo (Gangwon Provincial Office) went one step further for ‘four consecutive medals’.
Hwang Sun -woo won the qualifiers at the 2025 World Swimming Championship men’s freestyle 200m held in Singapore on the 28th (Korea time) at 1 minute 46 seconds (5th, 5th, overall).
Hwang Sun -woo, a defending champion, will challenge the medal for four consecutive years in the world championship men’s freestyle 200m. He won a silver medal in 2022 Budapest and a bronze medal in 2023 Fukuoka, and won the gold medal at 1 minute 44 seconds 75 in Doha last year.
Korean management athletes’ world championships have the highest medal records. Hwang Sun -woo harvested four world championship medals (gold 1, 2 silver 2, 1) by adding a freestyle 200m gold medal and Gyeyoung 800m silver medal in Doha last year. This is a record of overtaking Park Tae -hwan (2 gold, one), but the solo exhibition medal is the same as Park Tae -hwan.
The world championship is also a lesser stage of Hwang Sun -woo’s regret of the Paris Olympics. He won the semi -finals with fourth overall in the event last year, but failed to control the pace in the semi -finals, and eight people could not enter the finals.
The men’s freestyle 200m semi -final will be held at 9:07 on the 28th. The final is at 8:02 pm on the 29th. The Paris Olympic gold medalist, David Popovic (Romania), ranked first (1:45 seconds 43) and Paris bronze medalist Luke Hopson advanced to the second place (1:45 seconds 61). Lee Ho -jun (Jeju City Hall), who participated with Hwang Sun -woo, was not in the semi -finals with 21st (1:47 seconds 36).
