FIFA has again found itself at the center of controversy over plans for Saudi Arabia to host the 2036 World Cup, sparking criticism, particularly aimed at president Gianni Infantino.
In an attempt to reduce the pressure, Infantino decided that he would FIFA-‘s congress, scheduled for December 11, to be held online, as well as the draw of qualifications for World Cup 2026., which will be held on December 13. For the first time, the draw for the qualifications will be in a virtual format, a Croatia will find out their opponents via online broadcast. The new qualification format includes 55 national teams, divided into 12 groups, whereby the winners of the groups will ensure direct placement at the WC in the USA, Canada and Mexico, while the additional four places will be determined through the playoffs.
Croatia, as one of the best-ranked national teams, will be in the first strong group, which gives it a more favorable start for placing in the finals.
