Let us know more about you. Who is Xavi?
Xavi: I am the assistant coach of Persepolis and I am considered one of the old fans of Persepolis with three decades of presence in this arena. I have 20 years of professional football experience, along with a strong technical background and full commitment to the mental development of players. My role here goes beyond technical and tactical work; My focus is on increasing team cohesion and coordination, improving individual player performance and supporting each player on their path to excellence.
When did you start working with Persepolis?
Xavi: I was added to Persepolis at the beginning of this season along with Juan Carlos Garrido. Our goal was clear from day one: to build a team that is strong and united and can achieve higher achievements in every competition we participate in.
What exactly do you do? Just analysis or more work
Xavi: My role is multidimensional. I am responsible for managing opponent analysis and reviewing videos, but at the same time, I am also present in decision-making alongside Garrido and help to eliminate the challenges that arise. As a mental coach, I work on team cohesion and coordination and have private sessions with players to help them maintain focus, motivation and strength under pressure. We are lucky to have been able to work with other coaches like Jalal (Hosseini) and Afshin Pirwani from the beginning. They added valuable experience and charisma to us and gave us a correct understanding of Iranian football. Karim (Bagheri) was also recently added to the technical staff, who is another great former player whom the players have a lot of respect for.
Which city in Spain are you from? (And what is your favorite team?)
Xavi: I am from Barcelona, a city with a rich football culture. Of course, my favorite team is Persepolis, a club that I am proud to work with and I am trying to improve the legendary conditions of this team. It was here that I learned that football is not just a game, but a way to show commitment and heart and emotion.
How many years have you been working with Juan Garrido?
Xavi: My relationship with Garrido started a decade ago. We first met at Villarreal when I was playing under him and we also managed to achieve great success: we got into the Champions League and we reached the semi-finals of the Europa League and the Copa del Rey. After that, our paths crossed again in Kastion and our cooperation continued stronger than before.
Tell us about the style of play this coach likes.
Xavi: Garrido’s style of football is dynamic, organized and based on team effort. He places a lot of value on pressing from the front and having a strong and ruthless mind, always pushing the players to be disciplined and play with all their might in any situation. It’s a style that requires a lot of commitment from everyone and it’s been a pleasure to watch our team grow and apply this philosophy on the pitch every day.
Garrido praised you in a special way today. How do you feel about this support?
Xavi: I am truly grateful for the support and trust Garrido has shown me. Working with him makes me proud and these praises give me more motivation to work hard for the success of Persepolis. We are building something special together and I am proud to be a part of it.
Persepolis is similar to which Spanish team?
Xavi: Persepolis is a big club like Barcelona or Real Madrid and has a mentality similar to Athletic Bilbao, a team that deeply values its identity and connection with fans. Like Bilbao, Persepolis plays with its heart in an incredible way, and the determination of the players is clear in every game, and they have the same fighting spirit that they will never give up until the final whistle.
Which player in this team has the ability to play in La Liga right now?
Xavi: We are lucky to have exceptional talents. Their football and passion for the game on and off the field shows that they can easily perform in a competitive environment like La Liga.
