Japanese national team player golden week training camp: Mr. Lochlan Stevens visits Japan
During Golden Week 2016, the Japan Cricket Association invited Mr. Lochlan Stevens as a special coach and held a training camp for the Japanese national team.
Stevens is an assistant coach with the Victorian Bushrangers, Australia’s famous cricket team, and head coach of the Melbourne Renegades, a powerhouse women’s team. His visit to Japan will be the first to be dispatched under the partnership between the Japan Cricket Association and Cricket Victoria (state association) to dispatch coaches.
The Japan Women’s National Team, which is working towards the Women’s World Cup qualifiers to be held in Samoa in July, will participate in the Sano City International Cricket Tournament from April 29th (Friday) to May 8th (Sunday). Training was conducted on the spot.
Mr Stevens said: “I am deeply impressed by everyone’s passion for cricket. The women players in particular put in a lot of effort. I hope their efforts will be rewarded.” .
The players began skill training such as nets practice and fitness training under the guidance of trainer Okawa, and played one 50-over format match and one T20 format match.
On the final day, a Cricket Blast series was held, in which players also participated as volunteers. Approximately 40 children under the age of 12 learned about cricket and deepened their relationships with the players.
The players of the Japan Men’s National Team trained from May 2nd (Monday) to May 7th (Saturday), including skill training such as nets practice and fitness training under the guidance of trainer Okawa. We played two T20 format matches.
The Japan men’s national team is scheduled to participate in the East Asia Cup, which will be held at the Sano City International Cricket Ground from November 3rd to 6th.
