Lyon, one of the biggest French clubs, is facing serious financial problems. Namely, last week the football public was shocked by the news about the report of the National Commission for Control of Management (DNCG), which investigated the financial books of the French giant.

The investigation found that Lyon owes 505.1 million euros, and soon a decision was made to expel the club from the French Ligue 1 to the second division.

However, the mitigating circumstance for Lyon is that it is currently a suspended sentence and the club will avoid expulsion from the first league if it settles its debts by the end of the current football season. Regardless, Lions fans fear for the future of their club, with majority owner John Textor addressing the public.

“There are intelligent people in DNCG, but they work in a system that does not allow them to see what we are actually doing. They had to digest huge numbers in a short time, so they got lost looking at our financial reports”he said.

Textor, who owns 77.49 percent of the club’s shares, assures that Lyon will not be kicked out of the first class of French football:

“We will not be kicked out. There’s no way that’s going to happen. I know that the situation is not easy and that there are many skeptics, but we will not be kicked out.”

An American businessman believes that the French must emulate the English:

“We should emulate the English Premier League, which punishes clubs in debt in a different way. We’ve got cover, the owners won’t let the club go under. There’s no way they’re kicking us out. Tell the whole world that Lyon will not be relegated!”

Textor noted that the club has numerous enemies, and apparently he primarily alluded to PSG, with whom he often has verbal conflicts:

“We have many enemies in the Ligue 1 board, but also in the rich Qatari club”, concluded the owner of Lyon.

It is still not known what the future holds for the club represented by the Croatian representative Duje Ćaleta-Car, and the final decision will be known at the end of the season.
