Mayor of Bjelovar: ‘Just a reminder that not even the new pitch in Maksimir could withstand the heavy rain…’

The SuperSport Croatian Football Cup Round of 16 match between Bjelovar and Dinamo was postponed due to extremely bad weather conditions. Dinamo informed the public on its social networks about the decision, which was made only an hour before the scheduled start of the match.
The new match date will be determined later, which will further complicate Dinamo’s already crowded schedule, which includes the domestic championship and European appearances. Photos of the waterlogged terrain were published on social networks, as was the mayor of Bjelovar Dario Hrebak he commented on the situation.
“It’s a pity, the field didn’t hold up, 5 hours of heavy rain before the game took its toll, the strong wind tore out our flags, tore off the umbrellas, and took the roof off the auxiliary facilities. Perhaps it would have been better if it had been postponed, so that no one would get hurt, and for the sake of the spectators, who certainly would not have come in the thousands as expected, to watch the match in this weather.”
“It’s a shame, today was supposed to be a football holiday, anyway, thanks to everyone who prepared the pitch, which Bjelica also said was excellent, but not today. For critics and political parties (I see that some woke up just before the local elections), who now want to vulture on the topic of sports, just a reminder that not even the new pitch in Maksimir could withstand the heavy rain and the Champions League match that was played against Monaco a few weeks ago .
I am glad that some have woken up and that it is our fault because the rain in Bjelovar has to fall sometimes.”
