MLB Atlanta recruits released Merrifield to replace injured Allbees

The Atlanta Braves, a prestigious team in the Major League Baseball (MLB), provided an emergency blood transfusion to utilityman Whit Merrifield (35) in place of injured starting second baseman Ozzie Alvis (27).

On the 23rd (Korean time), Atlanta recalled prospect Nacho Alvarez Jr. from Triple A as an alternative to Allvis, and then recruited Merrifield, who was recently released from Philadelphia.

Olvis, Atlanta’s starting second baseman, fractured his left wrist in the game against the St. Louis Cardinals the day before.

As a result of the examination, it was confirmed that approximately 8 weeks of treatment were needed.

This is a major blow to Atlanta, which is ranked second in the National League’s Eastern Division.

Merrifield, who was acquired by Atlanta as an alternative to the Allvis, was released by the Philadelphia Phillies on the 13th.

Merrifield, who debuted with the Kansas City Royals in 2016, played with Ryu Hyun-jin (37, Hanwha Eagles) at the Toronto Blue Jays from 2022 to 2023.

Merrifield, who was selected as an All-Star three times, signed a one-year contract with Philadelphia for $8 million ahead of this season, but was released at the end of the first half after performing poorly with a batting average of 0.199, 3 home runs, and 11 RBIs in 53 games.
