Modrić outraged: ‘The referee killed the match, he was quite arrogant’
In Glasgow, Croatia lost in the fifth round of the League of Nations to Scotland 1:0 with a goal by John McGinn in the 86th minute.
After the game, captain Luka Modrić was bitter. He rained fire on the referees.
“It is difficult to analyze a match when it is ‘killed’ by the referee. So… We were quite good, controlled the game, had a lot of chances. We were absolutely the better team and we deserved to lead by two points”. he said Luka Modric then added:
“And in the end, the referee ruins the match, so it’s difficult to analyze anything now. We fought like lions until the end, but we didn’t last. We had chances later on, it’s a shame because of that chance by Pašalić. We have one more in front of us and everything is in our hands”emphasized the captain.
Modrić was often in conversation with the judge.
“We tried to talk to him. He was quite arrogant, he was not ready to talk to other players, he talked to me. Their first start at Sučić, you don’t give any card, you give him two cards for two fouls. We made six, seven fouls and received four cards. Someone needs to explain to him that not every violation is a card. This is how you ruin a game that was very peaceful. Without rough fouls and to give a red card in a game like this is incredible”Modrić was outraged.
And then he turned to the continuation of the competition.
“We can’t get out of this skin. We definitely didn’t deserve to lose this game, but we did. Let’s continue to prepare as best as possible for Portugal. We are playing at home, the stadium will be full and I hope that we will play the first game and get a positive result.”
Against Portugal in the first game Croatia was good.
“I think we played a good match there, I believe we can repeat it in Split. The most important thing is to rest well and get ready. I believe that we will be at a good level with energy and present ourselves in the right light and win the quarterfinals“, concluded Modrić.
