A large crowd gathered at the celebration event for the MLB LA Dodgers’ World Series (WS) victory held in Los Angeles (LA), USA.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) announced that it was estimated that about 220,000 people gathered at the Dodgers championship celebration parade held in downtown LA on the 1st (local time).
On this day, the outdoor parade celebrating the Dodgers’ championship began around 11 a.m.
According to a local broadcast video, seven double-decker buses carrying Dodgers players, their families, and coaches slowly moved down a major road in downtown LA, and fans who filled the streets and surrounding areas on both sides of the road with enthusiastic cheers and applause for the players. Dodgers infielder Freddie Freeman (35), who was selected as the World Series Most Valuable Player (MVP), said upon seeing the cloud of fans gathered, “It was unbelievable,” and added, “LA showed a really great performance.”
Japanese Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani (30) attended the event with his wife Mamiko Tanaka and their dog Dekopin.
“I was overwhelmed by the number of fans here,” Ohtani said through an interpreter in a broadcast interview. “It’s been an amazing year and I’m really happy that I was able to contribute.”
Meanwhile, the Dodgers faced the traditional powerhouse New York Yankees in the World Series that ended on the 30th of last month (local time) and won with 4 wins and 1 loss, winning their 8th World Series championship.
It has been 4 years since the Dodgers won the World Series, but in 2020, commemorative events such as the championship parade were not properly held due to the COVID-19 incident, so this is the first time in 36 years since 1988 that the championship parade was held.
