Judo legend Ha Hyung-joo appointed as chairman of the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation

Ha Hyeong-ju (62), a gold medalist in judo at the 1984 LA Olympics, was appointed as chairman of the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon delivered a letter of appointment to new Chairman Ha at the conference room of the Seoul branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 18th. Chairman Ha was the winner of the men’s 95 kg judo class at the 1984 LA Olympics. The first Korean judo team to win a gold medal at the Olympics was Ahn Byeong-geun, who won the men’s 71kg class at the same event as Chairman Ha.

Chairman Ha, who graduated from Busan Physical Education High School and Dong-A University, worked as a professor in the Department of Physical Education at Dong-A University after retirement, and was appointed as a standing auditor of the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation in August of last year.

Minister Yoo said, “The Korea Sports Promotion Foundation is an important organization that fosters national sports promotion projects and the sports industry through the creation and management of the National Sports Promotion Fund.” He added, “The new chairman will use the experience and expertise he has accumulated in the sports field to promote sports activities.” “I hope we will work hard to achieve the growth of welfare and the sports industry,” he said.

Chairman Ha was selected as the chairman of the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation after review by the Executive Recommendation Committee, which is comprised of figures from the sports, business, and legal fields, and was appointed by President Yoon Seok-yeol at the recommendation of Minister Yoo. The inauguration ceremony will be held at the Seoul Olympic Parktel on the 20th, and the term will run until November 17, 2027.
